Why are your medication prices so high? For one, because there are no regulations in the U.S. to cap the price of prescription drugs, your particular therapy may lack the competition necessary to lower its cost. How JAMA & Kaiser Family Foundation Studies Have Concluded Millions of U.S. Adults Import Medications - July 2, 2020
According to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), 1.5% of adults in the U.S. who take prescription drugs purchase them from outside the U.S. to save money each year. That’s about 2.3 million people. In 2016, my review of a similar set of data estimated about four million per year.
...Isn’t that “using prescription purchases outside the U.S. to meet their medication needs?” The data is strikingly clear that people who have reported skipping medication doses, delaying filling a prescription, or using alternative therapies, are far more likely to import medicine because of cost.
Ending Big Pharma’s Co-pay Cards as Deductibles Hurts Consumers - May 13, 2020
I’m on a roll here, agreeing with drug companies on an issue related to affordable medicines access. Last week, I wrote about Gilead’s messaging about remdesivir, the new Covid-19 treatment permitted via FDA’s emergency use authorization: namely that you can’t buy remdesivir online: if you try, you’ll be scammed.
...If a co-payment is $50 for a one month supply of Xarelto (a patented, brand name drug) costing the employer $500, and a co-payment for a generic therapeutic alternative of Xarelto, warfarin, is $5, and may cost the employer $20, then the employer and the employee are hyper-motivated to go with warfarin.
Public Comment to the WHO About Online Access to Imported Medicines and SDG 3.8 - July 2, 2019
One of the Sustainable Development Goals, 3.8, created under UN auspices is: “Achieve universal health coverage, including financial risk protection, access to quality essential health-care services and access to safe, effective, quality and affordable essential medicines and vaccines for all.” Lower-income countries where majorities of citizens can’t afford basic healthcare are deserving of our urgent and generous help, but the pain and anguish faced by American families where people are dying because they can’t afford medicine must also be addressed.

Providing regulatory space to promote safe international Internet pharmacy
practice in furtherance of SDG 3.8 as it applies to access to affordable

REVIEW: The Opioid Crisis in America Course from Harvard University - May 17, 2019
Over 700,000 people died in the U.S. from a drug overdose between 1999 to 2017. That’s about 130 American deaths daily. At PharmacyChecker, we are dedicated to helping fight this epidemic by learning more about the crisis and spreading awareness. I recently obtained certification for The Opioid Crisis in America course offered by Harvard University.
...Options include massage, acupuncture, physical therapy, and mindfulness meditation.
People with close family members, such as a parent, sibling, or child who have substance use disorder are four times more likely to develop an addiction themselves.
The main reason
people die from an opioid overdose is due to opioids dulling the part of
the brain that regulates breathing.
