International Pharmacy Verification Program

PharmacyChecker Standards, Guidelines, and Inspection Information for Pharmacy Accreditation

The PharmacyChecker (PC) International Pharmacy Verification Program (IPVP) was established in 2003 with a mission to protect public health across the globe by helping patient-consumers, their caregivers, and clinicians find information about safe online pharmacies that sell affordable medicines. Over the years, PharmacyChecker Accreditation has come to be synonymous with high standards of patient safety. All pharmacies accredited in our program must demonstrate they are licensed by the jurisdiction in which they practice, in addition to passing rigorous audits concerning pharmacy practice and patient safety. Dispensing partner pharmacies located in countries with limited regulatory oversight are subject to regular onsite inspections.

The PharmacyChecker Seal represents the accreditation and continuous monitoring of an online pharmacy that has been verified to market and sell prescription drugs dispensed from licensed dispensing partners in good standing in the countries where they are located. It shows patients and caregivers that they are dealing with a reputable online pharmacy. The PharmacyChecker Seal also allows an online pharmacy, dispensing pharmacy, or wholesaler to showcase dedication and compliance with PC IPVP policies, connecting online pharmacies with an international chain of partners committed to patient safety.

Overview of PC IPVP Requirements

PC IPVP accreditation is open to pharmacies and online pharmacies (websites), including retail, wholesale, HMO, and veterinary pharmacies. Pharmacies and wholesalers across the globe, including those in the U.S., Canada, Australia, India, Mauritius, New Zealand, Turkey, or the UK, are eligible to participate in the PC IPVP. Eligible pharmacies may apply to the PharmacyChecker International Pharmacy Verification Program through which they are verified for licensure, standards of pharmacy practice, and monitored for continued compliance with IPVP standards. All applicants must agree to PC IPVP Accreditation and Seal Agreements.

Before you begin the application process, please review the outlined terms in the documents below:

What types of pharmacies apply to the PC IPVP?

Companies that apply for PharmacyChecker Accreditation in the PC IPVP own online pharmacies, dispensing pharmacies, and/or wholesalers.

Dispensing Pharmacy Applicants

A dispensing pharmacy is licensed to sell pharmaceuticals and dispenses medications to individual patients pursuant to a lawful, valid prescription. Accreditation of dispensing pharmacies that fill prescriptions for online pharmacies participating in the PC IPVP is required.

A Tier 1 dispensing pharmacy operates in a country overseen by an advanced regulatory authority, such as those dispensing pharmacies located in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, or other accepted countries. They may ship domestically and/or internationally.

A Tier 2 dispensing pharmacy operates in a country without advanced regulatory authority oversight, such as those pharmacies located in India, Turkey, Mauritius, or free trade zones. They may ship domestically and/or internationally. Regular onsite inspections are required of Tier 2 dispensing pharmacy participants.

Online Pharmacy Applicants

Online pharmacies are websites that market and sell prescription drugs via an e-commerce platform. A company may own its own dispensing pharmacy or may refer orders to outside dispensing pharmacies. Online pharmacies that market prescription drugs domestically and/or internationally are eligible to participate in the Verification Program.

Only once those websites are approved in the PC IPVP can they choose to list their online pharmacy and/or drug prices on PharmacyChecker.com through the Pharmacy & Drug Price Listing Program.

Wholesaler Applicants

A wholesaler sells and/or distributes prescription medications to authorized dispensing pharmacies, hospitals and/or licensed prescribers. Accreditation of wholesalers located in countries without advanced regulatory authorities, such as those located in India and Turkey, who sell to dispensing pharmacies accredited in the PC IPVP is strongly advised. Accreditation of wholesalers located in free trade zones who sell to dispensing pharmacies accredited in the PC IPVP is required. These wholesalers must be evaluated for continued compliance with PC IPVP Standards and Policies. They may distribute pharmaceuticals domestically and/or internationally.

PharmacyChecker Verification Program Fees

Please review the associated accreditation fees and conditions of eligibility. Pricing for participation in the PharmacyChecker IPVP consists of a one-time, non-refundable application fee and monthly verification fees per participant.

Upon application, there is a $572 non-refundable processing fee per applicant/pharmacy not subject to onsite inspection.

The application fee for dispensing pharmacies subject to inspection by PharmacyChecker is US $990 ($572 non-refundable processing fee per applicant/pharmacy is charged during the online application and the applicant is invoiced for the $418 balance once we’ve reviewed the application). Additional inspection fees will apply. Contact us for more information.

If approved, there is a $235 monthly fee per online pharmacy, a $185 monthly fee per dispensing pharmacy (no websites associated that sell medications to patients), and a $185 monthly fee per wholesaler.

The PC IPVP team will review the domain(s) or brick-and-mortar pharmacies and/or wholesalers submitted for accreditation. If a company operates multiple online pharmacy websites, each website requires a separate application within your PharmacyChecker portal and is subject to individual monthly verification fees. If the same company operates both a dispensing pharmacy and wholesaler, each requires a separate application within your PharmacyChecker portal and each is subject to the fees specified above. If the same company owns both an online pharmacy and a dispensing pharmacy accredited in the Verification Program, there is a 10% discount applied to their monthly verification. The first month of accreditation is free. Pharmacies can cancel at any time.

Any applicant found unresponsive or unwilling to comply with PharmacyChecker International Pharmacy Verification Program standards within 90 days of the application date may not be approved. PharmacyChecker.com reserves the right to disqualify any applicant if it, or any person associated with it, was, directly or indirectly, found by the IPVP team to be in violation of Verification Program standards.
